Our DIY Wedding

We did a ton of things ourselves for our wedding. I have decided to compile a list of the things we did to reflect. I hope to inspire you to do things yourself. It's a really fun and rewarding process. I have included links where applicable for tutorials I made as well.

Paper Flowers

We made all the flowers (I'm not exagerating, Literally ALL) for our wedding.

We made the corsages and boutonnieres for the groomsmen, parents and grandparents.

We made custom match box favours.

Stationary

We made the cards that went along with the invitations, the save the dates, the thank you cards, the thank you notes for the tables, seating plan cards and kissing menu cards.

We also made these clusters of tree branches and the photo decorations out of tree branches that came down in an ice storm

We customized our own box for our wedding rings

Paper Banners

I made all the paper banners

Andrew carved all the signs and I painted them

Gift Bags/Boxes

I customized all the gift bags with the first letter of the persons name. I also made custom makeup bags for by bridesmaids.

We did SO much for our wedding. And I am so pleased with how it turned out. It was a ton of work but it came together beautifully.

DIY Wedding Ring Box

I love wedding ring boxes, they are all over pinterest and etsy. I knew I wanted one once I got engaged instead of the ring pillow but they can be pretty pricey. Today I am going to share with you how Andrew and I made our ring box!

You Will Need:

-Wooden box. We got ours for three dollars at Dollarama
-Sponges. Again, cheap at dollarama
-Fabric. I had some scraps left over. You definitely don't need more than a fat quarter.
-Hot Glue
-Knife, for cutting the sponge
-Stain. We made our own, the same stuff we made for our wooden guestbook. You can find the instructions there!
-Some sort of paint brush

Instructions:

1) Stain your wooden box (inside and out) and let it dry
2) Take a sponge (or several sponges) and put them in the box. The sponges should fill the box. You'll want to hot glue the sponges together and then cut a slice in the box where you want the rings to go!
3) Cover the sponge in the fabric and hot glue it in place. Make sure you put the fabric in between the slice you made.
4) Put the fabric covered sponge back in the box and put your wedding rings in it!

It's really that easy! Leave a comment if you have any questions!

DIY Wedding Aisle Decorations

It's been a while since I've posted anything wedding related. Today I am going to share with you the decorations Andrew and I (mostly me) made to hang on the pews at the church! I'm so excited with how they turned out.

You Will Need:

-Tulle
-Clear Hair Elastics
-Paper Flowers (But really you could do the same thing with anything you wanted)
-Ribbon (I used 7/8" wide white ribbon)
-Measuring Tape
-Scissors
-Wire
-Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue

Instructions:

1) Make small bouquets of paper flowers. I used five of the paper flowers that match the ones I created for the centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres. We made a small bouquet and stuck them together with hot glue and wire.

2) Measure the pews at the location of your wedding ceremony. You'll need to know how tall the pews are so you can cut the tulle to the correct length. The pews at the church I'm getting married at are 34" tall. So I cut pieces of tulle that were approximately 68" (Heights of pews x 2) long. Each decoration has two pieces of tulle. So I ended up cutting 64 pieces of tulle that were 68" long by 6" wide. I actually used the tiles on the floor of my parents kitchen to measure and cut the tulle. Three tiles were approximately the length I needed so I rolled the tulle out on the floor, weighed the one end down with a candle and cut the tulle every three tiles. My dad actually came up with the idea. It saved me a lot of time.

3) Take two pieces of the tulle you cut and fold them both in half. Then I put an elastic nine and a half inches from the fold to keep the tulle together and help keep the flowers in place.

4) Wedge the tulle in between the flowers to keep the flowers in place.

5) Tie a piece of ribbon right underneath the flowers. I did this to help cover up the wire from the flowers and I also liked the look of it. I cut my ribbon into pieces that were about 24" long.

6) Repeat steps 3-5 for all your decorations! I made 32 and I plan to put them on every other pew in the church

I'm really pleased with how they turned out! Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

DIY: Photo Save The Dates

I love save the dates. I think they are so cute and adorable. But I hate how expensive some of them can be. Today I am going to show you how we made 125 save the dates for under $30.

You Will Need:

-Pictures (on your computer)
-Picmonkey (or other photo-editing software)
-Shutterfly (or some other way to print out the photos)

Instructions:

1) Using picmonkey, edit your photo, make a collage, add text, anything you want really. Make sure you photo is sized correctly so it will be able to be printed. Here are the standard photo-printing sizes. I also found this tutorial extremely helpful with all of the resizing and other useful picmonkey information

The finished product!

2)Save you edited picture and upload it to shutterfly. If you haven't signed up for a shutterfly account already you can get 50 4x6 printed photos for free! We signed Andrew up for an account since I already had one. Make sure you the photo will be entirely printed and that nothing is cropped out. You can do this by clicking the preview link in shutterfly.

3) Select the number you need, Order your save the dates and wait for them to come in the mail!

It is really easy. If you find a save the date that you like you can even copy the design for most of them! It just takes a little time to get things perfect. I am so happy with how ours turned out and doing them this way probably saved us about $100, since the ones I liked were over a dollar each!

DIY Wedding Bow-Tie Dog Collar

Today I am sharing with you a tiny sewing project I just completed. It's a bowtie for my dog (Freddie) to wear on our wedding day! I did not make the directions for this on my own, so I will just share the link for the tutorial with you. If you want to make this yourself you can find the directions here. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I think my dog looks so cute!

What do you think?
